The drive to speed up cancer care and reduce pressure on the NHS means that family doctors will now be able to refer patients with worrying symptoms straight for diagnostics such as brain MRIs, CT scans and blood tests.
This will cut out hospital consultants, who at present are seen for initial consultations before patients join another waiting list for a scan.
